Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president, and also holds the title of most powerful female officer in American history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
