He was constantly changing jobs throughout Corcoran's career. Sometimes, her family relied upon free food delivery from a local, friendly grocery store. Corcoran remembers her father as an intoxicated man who would sometimes treat her mother with condescension and disrespect, particularly after the fact that he was drinking. Corcoran struggled throughout her schooling and later discovered that she was dyslexic. Corcoran entered the high school system in St. Cecilia High School Englewood, after she left her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran graduated from Leonia High School with a degree in English after having failed several classes during her first year of high school.
